1.
If time is a river and pain is a teacher then let’s jump in together in that cold, cold water If the path’s just a sliver through the pine and the cedar then let’s walk it together in that cold cold weather When the light of the moon casts its silvery gaze how the shadow recedes but what’s left in the space? Growing at the edges Something new When our hopes like the embers if these winds could fan them Could we remember how it feels to dream again? through the snow and the bluster of that dark dark winter’s night When the light of the moon casts it silvery gaze how the shadow recedes but what’s left in the space? beyond what we know there is a place are you ready to go? past the path that was laid Growing at the edges Peeking from a seed Where there was a wasteland Something new

there’s a song my heart would sing but lately I’ve been only half listening and the vivid shades turn to muted gray I try to remember how to see what’s hidden underneath to know there’s beauty in the incomplete because the path we’re on when the night grows long can seem to have no end though my heart can ache when its wide awake I still want to hear it’s song And if your love could move through me would it’s chaos make a symphony that could rouse from sleep what I could not reach when the light just can’t get in and though my heart can ache when its wide awake I still want to hear it’s song

into the depths swimming where pitch black water blurs where does it start and I begin? fixed to a sun scared at the thought of leaving it where all that remains is what I choose to be so I’m parting with a hollow version what I thought I knew that it’s not just about how we grow but what we can undo tangled in knots peeling at layers holding in words stuck in time, living in me to live what i’m not reflecting a twisted logic’s hold I want to know how it feels to be free and I’m parting with a hollow version what I thought I knew and I’m grateful for the ways that i’ve been shown what I can undo
6.
it was a season of flame burning through bone dry land though we didn’t want to believe it just took a spark to see so we drove under red, hot skies and we watched with our blood shot eyes but through them a clarity the end of what used to be and out of the ruin we dream of worlds that we can’t yet see of monuments to the cruel ripped from their pedestal some wished to go back while they wait for rain but we know we can’t ever go back to where we came so we dug out a garden where the singed concrete cracked because the soil was fertile to replace what we’ve lacked
7.
Hold on a vision of the rising sun perched up on your shoulder like you’re carrying a boulder Up the hill for a panoramic view but it was no longer familiar from the fires of the old year We hold out and race against the setting sun as the pathway grows much darker but the stars will point us home where I love how you will dance around the entire room to a song that only you hear as it turns into a new year

9.
I’m tending the seeds that were gifted to me in a chance encounter with an old friend at the park I’m holding it close a feeling I’ve known its like an atlas that’s finally led me home In little ways the season changes and I know it does the same in me but this time I’ve no fear of running from all that it might ask of me I thought of picking the weeds that had sprouted between a row of flowers when I wasn’t looking there but they do what they can in a hostile land I can’t help but admire all their thorns In little ways the landscape changes and I know it does the same in me but this time I’ve no need for hiding the parts I don’t want you to see The love we receive imperfect and brief it is dappled like sunlight through a leaf but growing in me is a garden unseen in the morning light we are gleaming
